Giving Tuesday 2019
The start of the giving season
Giving Tuesday is a global giving movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday/Cyber Monday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” is a time when charities, businesses and individuals across Canada and in 150 countries join together and rally for their favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday/Cyber Monday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday and unites people to support and champion the causes they believe in.
Originally created in 2012 by the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact in New York City, Giving Tuesday or, more appropriately #GivingTuesday, is a global initiative that aims to harness the power of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities and stimulate charitable giving. GivingTuesday provides a platform for people to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners ─ nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals – to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. Across Canada and around the world, GivingTuesday unites communities by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
This year marks the seventh year since it’s inception and will be celebrated on the 3rd of December.
