May 9, 2019 Ontario Government Activates Disaster Recovery Assistance to Support Residents in the Ottawa River Area

May 7, 2019 11:00 A.M. TORONTO – Our government is acting swiftly and notifying the municipalities of Ottawa, Clarence-Rockland, Champlain and Alfred and Plantagenet that we have activated the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program in areas affected by recent overland flooding from the Ottawa River. The safety of those affected by this natural disaster is our government’s top priority. Heavy rainfall and snow melt have led to severe flooding across eastern Ontario. The municipalities of Ottawa, Clarence-Rockland and Alfred and Plantagenet have declared a state of emergency due to flooding. Several hundred primary homes and small businesses in the municipalities have been impacted. Did last years tornadoes destroy your trees? Residents in the Ottawa-Gatineau region can now get grants to replace their damaged trees from last year’s tornadoes. Tree Canada, Canada’s leading national tree charity, is supporting Ottawa-Gatineau residents replace trees lost from last September’s devastating tornadoes through its Operation ReLeaf Ottawa-Gatineau Tornadoes program, an ambitious greening initiative which provides funding to affected residents to re-plant trees on their property. Tree Canada’s program, in cooperation with the City of Ottawa, Ecology Ottawa, the Ville de Gatineau and le Conseil régional de l’environnement et du développement durable de l’Outaouais (CREDDO), will provide up to $300 in funding to private landowners (i.e. residences, condominiums, institutional) who own/manage a property and who had individual trees destroyed by the…
